Salcah

Salcah (also Salchah or Salecah) was a city on the eastern frontier of Bashan, the fertile highland region east and northeast of the Sea of Galilee assigned to the half tribe of Manasseh. It marked the extreme eastern boundary of the territory of Og, king of Bashan, which Moses and the Israelites conquered (Deut. 3:10; Josh. 12:5; 13:11). The site is identified with modern Salkhad (or Sulkhad), a town approximately fifty-six miles east of the Jordan, situated in the Hauran upland with the Jebel Druz range to its east. An ancient basalt fortress stands at the site, and its strategic position on the edge of the desert made it a significant frontier stronghold. The reference in 1 Chronicles 5:11 also places it at the boundary of the Gadite settlements in the Transjordanian territory.
