Seirath

Seirath was a wooded or forested locality in the hill country of Ephraim to which the judge Ehud fled after assassinating the Moabite king Eglon at Jericho (Judg. 3:26). Ehud had exploited the cover of the private meeting room, killed Eglon with a concealed short sword, and escaped while the king's servants waited in ignorance. He then rallied the Israelites from Seirath and led them to seize the fords of the Jordan, cutting off the Moabite army. The name may relate to a word for "goat" or "hairy" terrain; its precise location is unknown.
