Serug
Person Name
Name meaning: "branch; layer; twining"
Serug was a son of Reu and great-grandfather of Abraham in the patriarchal genealogy (Gen. 11:20–23; 1 Chr. 1:26; Luke 3:35). He was born when his father Reu was 32 years old and lived to the age of 230. His son Nahor (grandfather of Abraham) was born when Serug was 30. The names in these genealogies correspond to places in the Harran region of northern Mesopotamia known from Assyrian and other sources, suggesting the biblical patriarchal families were connected to that region before Abraham's call — confirmed by the narrative that Abraham's family settled at Harran (Gen. 11:31).
