Seth

Seth (Hebrew Sheth, meaning "granted" or "appointed") was the third son of Adam and Eve, born after the murder of Abel by Cain (Gen. 4:25). Eve named him Seth, declaring "God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him" (Gen. 4:25). The narrative immediately adds that through Seth's son Enos, "people began to call upon the name of the LORD" (Gen. 4:26), establishing the Sethite line as the lineage of those who worshipped God. Seth lived 912 years (Gen. 5:8) and is the ancestor of Noah and thus of all post-Flood humanity. Luke's genealogy of Jesus traces the Messiah's lineage through Seth back to Adam (Luke 3:38), making him a figure of universal theological significance.
