Shaalabbin

Place

Shaalabbin (also Shaalbim) was a city in the territory allotted to the tribe of Dan (Josh. 19:42) from which the Amorites refused to be driven out (Judg. 1:35), maintaining control "when the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed," making the Amorites tributaries. The city was later incorporated into the second administrative district of Solomon, governed by Ben-Deker, alongside Makaz and Beth-shemesh (1 Kgs. 4:9). Eliahba the Shaalbonite, one of David's thirty mighty men (2 Sam. 23:32; 1 Chr. 11:33), likely came from this town. Its site is usually identified with Selbit, northwest of Jerusalem.
