Shallum
Name meaning: "perfect; peaceable; he that recompenses"
Shallum (meaning "retribution" or "recompense") was the name of numerous OT figures, the most historically significant being (1) Shallum ben Jabesh, the sixteenth king of Israel, who assassinated King Zechariah in public and reigned only one month before being slain by Menahem ben Gadi (2 Kgs. 15:10–15), fulfilling Hosea's oracles of the dynasty's collapse. (2) Shallum, husband of the prophetess Huldah, whose testimony prompted Josiah's reformation (2 Kgs. 22:14; 2 Chr. 34:22). (3) Shallum ben Josiah, who reigned briefly as Jehoahaz over Judah (1 Chr. 3:15; Jer. 22:11) before being deposed by Pharaoh Neco. (4) Shallum, keeper of the threshold of the temple in Jeremiah's day (Jer. 35:4).
