Sharezer

Sharezer (from Akkadian Shar-usur, "protect the king") was the name of two biblical figures. (1) Sharezer was one of the sons of the Assyrian king Sennacherib who, together with his brother Adrammelech, murdered their father while he was worshipping in the temple of the god Nisroch; they then fled to the land of Ararat (2 Kgs. 19:37; Isa. 37:38). This assassination is confirmed by Babylonian cuneiform sources. (2) Sharezer (or Sherezer) was a man sent by the people of Bethel during the restoration period to inquire of the priests and prophets whether the fast of the fifth month should be observed, which prompted Zechariah's discourse on true fasting (Zech. 7:2–7).
