Shebuel

Shebuel (meaning: captive of God or God is my captivity) is the name of two individuals in the Davidic era. The first was a descendant of Gershom the son of Moses, who held the position of chief officer over the treasuries of the house of God in David's administrative organization (1 Chronicles 23:16; 26:24). His appointment to this position reflects David's comprehensive reorganization of the Levitical roles in preparation for Solomon's temple.

The second Shebuel was a son of Heman the musician, one of fourteen sons appointed by David to prophesy with musical instruments — harps, psalteries, and cymbals — in the house of the Lord (1 Chronicles 25:4–5). Shebuel and his brothers served in the twenty-fourth division of the temple musicians, a system organized by lot to ensure regular rotation through the liturgical calendar (1 Chronicles 25:20). Both figures represent the careful organization of Levitical service that David established as his lasting contribution to Israel's worship.
