Shemaah

Shemaah (meaning: rumour or fame) was a Benjamite from Gibeah whose two sons, Ahiezer and Joash, were among the ambidextrous warriors — able to sling stones and shoot arrows with either hand — who came to David at Ziklag before his accession to the throne (1 Chronicles 12:3). These Benjamites had detached themselves from Saul's service to join David, despite being from Saul's own tribe.

Their father Shemaah is mentioned only in this genealogical notice; no individual acts are attributed to him beyond being the father of these two warriors. The Ziklag contingent (1 Chronicles 12:1–7) represents the growing movement of supporters who recognized David's divine calling even before Saul's death, and the Benjamite presence among them was particularly significant given the political loyalty that tribe generally owed to its kinsman Saul.
