Shimrom

Shimrom (also written Shimron) was the fourth son of Issachar, listed in the census of Jacob's family who came into Egypt (Genesis 46:13; 1 Chronicles 7:1). He became the ancestor of the Shimronite clan within Issachar (Numbers 26:24). Beyond his listing in these genealogical registers, no individual narrative is attached to Shimrom himself.

The name Shimrom is distinguished from the city of Shimron (a Canaanite royal city whose king was defeated by Joshua) only by the spelling convention, and the two should not be confused. As an ancestor of one of Issachar's four major clan divisions, Shimrom's significance lies entirely in his role as a genealogical progenitor. The tribe of Issachar occupied the fertile Jezreel valley and was known for its agricultural wealth and for the wisdom of its leaders in understanding the times (1 Chronicles 12:32).
