Shiphmite

Shiphmite is a gentillic designation appearing once in 1 Chronicles 27:27, identifying Zabdi as the officer in charge of David's vineyards — over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite. The designation indicates Zabdi's origin or family connection to a place or clan called Shiphmi, though the location of this place is not identified in Scripture.

Some have proposed that Shiphmite derives from Shepham, a place on the northeastern border of Canaan mentioned in Numbers 34:10–11, suggesting Zabdi may have originated from a family associated with that region. Others connect it to a place called Siphmoth in 1 Samuel 30:28, where David sent gifts after his victory over the Amalekites. In any case, Zabdi's role as manager of David's wine cellars places him among the specialized agricultural administrators of David's royal household, whose careful management of the king's estates was essential to supplying the court.
