Shobach

Shobach was the commander of the Syrian (Aramean) army under Hadadezer king of Zobah when Joab defeated the Syrians during David's wars with the Ammonites (2 Samuel 10:16–18). After the initial defeat at Rabbah, Hadadezer gathered additional Syrian forces from beyond the Euphrates at Helam. David himself led the Israelite army against them, routed the Syrians, and Shobach was mortally wounded and died on the battlefield. He is called Shophach in the parallel account in 1 Chronicles 19:16–18. His death marked the end of effective Syrian resistance during this phase of David's campaigns, causing the Syrian vassal states to make peace with Israel.
