Shunem

Shunem (meaning their rest or two resting-places) was a town in the tribe of Issachar, situated on the southwestern slope of the hill of Moreh in the Jezreel Valley, north of Jezreel and south of Mount Gilboa. It appears in Joshua 19:18 in the list of Issachar's towns. The Philistines encamped at Shunem before the battle of Jezreel in which Saul was defeated and killed at Mount Gilboa (1 Samuel 28:4).

Shunem is better known as the home of the great woman who showed hospitality to the prophet Elisha by building him a room on her roof, and whose son Elisha raised from the dead (2 Kings 4:8–37). It was also the hometown of Abishag, the young woman brought to comfort the dying David (1 Kings 1:3). The site is identified with modern Solem at the foot of Mount Moreh.
