Simri (also spelled Shimri) is the name of several biblical individuals. (1.) A son of Hosah of the Merarite Levites, appointed as a gatekeeper in David's organization of the temple personnel; though not the firstborn, his father made him chief of his family (1 Chronicles 26:10). (2.) The father of Jediael, one of David's mighty warriors (1 Chronicles 11:45). (3.) A Simeonite ancestor of Ziza who joined in the expansion of Simeon's territory in Hezekiah's time (1 Chronicles 4:37). (4.) A Levite of the sons of Elizaphan who helped in Hezekiah's purification of the temple (2 Chronicles 29:13). The name means watchful.
