Sirion

Sirion was the Sidonian name for Mount Hermon (Deuteronomy 3:9), the great snow-capped peak at the northern edge of the promised land (approximately 9,230 feet / 2,814 meters). The Amorites called the same mountain Shenir (Deuteronomy 3:9; 1 Chronicles 5:23). Psalm 29:6 uses Sirion as a poetic name in a theophanic psalm: He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox — picturing the response of creation to the voice of the LORD in the thunderstorm. The variation in names (Hermon, Sion, Sirion, Shenir) reflects the different peoples who inhabited the region around this towering landmark visible across much of ancient Syria-Palestine.
