Sosipater

Sosipater (meaning: savior of the father) is greeted by Paul in Romans 16:21 as a kinsman — a fellow-Jew — along with Timothy, Lucius, and Jason. He is almost certainly the same person as Sopater of Berea, who accompanied Paul on his final journey to Jerusalem (Acts 20:4). As a kinsman of Paul and associate of the Pauline mission, Sosipater likely participated in the collection effort for the Jerusalem church and the broader pastoral network Paul maintained across his Gentile churches.

The name Sosipater is a Greek compound reflecting the common pattern of Greek names with the root soter (savior). His presence in the greeting list of Romans alongside other Jewish Christians in Corinth indicates that the Corinthian church included significant Jewish membership.
