Stephanas

Stephanas (meaning: crown) was a leading member of the church at Corinth, whose household was among those Paul had personally baptized — the "firstfruits of Achaia" (1 Cor. 1:16; 16:15). His household had devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints, and Paul urges the Corinthians to submit to such men and to recognize all who labor and cooperate with the gospel (1 Cor. 16:15–16). Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus traveled from Corinth to Paul at Ephesus, refreshing the apostle's spirit and supplying what was lacking from the church's contact with him (1 Cor. 16:17).

Some have conjectured that Stephanas may have been the "jailer of Philippi" mentioned in Acts 16, but the identification lacks textual support. His designation as the firstfruits of Achaia gives him historical significance as one of the very first converts in the Greek mainland.
