Suphah

Suphah appears in Numbers 21:14 (margin; also Revised Version) in a quotation from the ancient "Book of the Wars of the LORD" — a now-lost source cited in the wilderness narrative. The text reads: "Waheb in Suphah, and the wadis of Arnon." Suphah is tentatively located near the south-eastern corner of the Dead Sea, possibly at the Ghor es-Safieh, the Jordan delta area where the Zered River enters the Dead Sea from the east.

The quotation from the Book of the Wars gives Suphah historical depth as a recognized geographical landmark in an older military tradition. Its precise identification remains uncertain, but its association with the conquest-era movements of Israel east of the Dead Sea makes it part of the wilderness itinerary documented in Numbers 33.
