Susanna

Susanna (meaning: lily) was one of the women who followed Jesus from Galilee and ministered to him and the Twelve from their own resources (Luke 8:3). She is named alongside Mary Magdalene and Joanna (the wife of Herod's steward Chuza) in this brief but remarkable notice of women as financial supporters and traveling companions of Jesus's ministry. The reference is the only mention of Susanna in the canonical New Testament.

These women, who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, formed an integral part of the traveling mission of Jesus, and their continued fidelity is confirmed by the role women played at the crucifixion and resurrection (Luke 23:55–56; 24:1–10). Susanna's inclusion in Luke's named list reflects his particular attention to women as participants in the kingdom of God.
