Tabeal

Tabeal was the father of an unnamed man whom Rezin king of Syria and Pekah king of Israel planned to install as a puppet king of Judah in place of Ahaz, during the Syro-Ephraimite crisis of c. 735 B.C. (Isa. 7:6). Isaiah's prophecy to Ahaz countered this scheme with the assurance "it shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass" (Isa. 7:7), in the same oracle that gave the sign of Immanuel (Isa. 7:14). The Aramaic name Tabeal ("God is good") suggests a Syrian or pro-Syrian figure intended to be more pliable to Damascene interests than the Davidic Ahaz.
