Tabret

A tabret (Hebrew toph) was a small, hand-held frame drum or tambourine — a percussion instrument used in joyful celebration, worship, dance, and procession. Miriam led the women of Israel with tabrets and dancing after the crossing of the Red Sea (Ex. 15:20). Jephthah's daughter came out with tabrets to greet her returning father (Judg. 11:34). The instrument is prescribed for praise of the LORD (Ps. 81:2; 150:4) and appears in descriptions of festive processions (1 Sam. 18:6; 2 Sam. 6:5). Isaiah 5:12 lists the tabret among the instruments at the feasts of the wicked, and 14:11 uses it as a symbol of earthly pomp destined for Sheol.
