Tachmonite

Person

The Tachmonite (or Tahchemonite) is the designation of Adino the Eznite, listed as "the chief of the captains" among David's thirty mighty men, credited with slaying eight hundred men at one time (2 Sam. 23:8). The parallel text in 1 Chronicles 11:11 names him Jashobeam the Hachmonite (Hachmoni). The divergence between the texts reflects textual corruption in one or both accounts; the heroic feat of individual combat against hundreds connects both descriptions. "Tachmonite" likely refers to a clan or place of origin.
