Talmai

Talmai was the name of two biblical figures. (1) Talmai was a son of Anak, one of the giant-clans (Anakim) inhabiting Hebron at the time of the spies' report (Num. 13:22). Caleb subsequently drove him out when he took possession of Hebron in fulfillment of Moses' promise (Josh. 15:14; Judg. 1:10). (2) Talmai king of Geshur (an Aramaic state east of the Jordan) was the father of Maacah, one of David's wives, who became the mother of Absalom (2 Sam. 3:3; 1 Chr. 3:2). After Absalom murdered his half-brother Amnon, he fled to his maternal grandfather Talmai in Geshur and remained three years before Joab arranged his recall to Jerusalem (2 Sam. 13:37–39).
