Talmon

Talmon was the head of a family of Levitical gatekeepers whose descendants returned from Babylonian exile (Ezra 2:42; Neh. 7:45) and served at the temple gates in Nehemiah's Jerusalem (Neh. 11:19; 12:25). The family of Talmon and Akkub are consistently mentioned together in the post-exilic records, suggesting they served in the same gatekeeper division. Gatekeepers held an honorable position in the temple hierarchy, controlling access to the sacred precincts and keeping watch at the four compass points of the sanctuary.
