"Target" in the KJV translates the Hebrew kidon (a javelin or spear) in 1 Samuel 17:6, describing the weapon Goliath carried between his shoulders — "he had a target of brass between his shoulders" (KJV) — rather than a circular aiming mark. Modern translations render this as "javelin" or "spear." The Hebrew tzinnah, sometimes translated "target" in older versions (e.g., Job 16:12), refers to the large body-shield rather than a target for archery. In Lamentations 3:12 the prophet feels as if God has set him as a mark or target for his arrows, expressing profound suffering under divine judgment.
