Tebeth

Tebeth (Hebrew Tevet) was the tenth month of the Hebrew religious calendar (December–January), corresponding roughly to the Babylonian month Tebetu. It is mentioned by name once in Scripture in connection with Esther: "So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth" (Esth. 2:16). The tenth of Tebeth was also the date on which the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem began (2 Kgs. 25:1; Jer. 39:1; Ezek. 24:1), and it is still observed as a fast day in Judaism. The modern Jewish calendar retains Tevet as its tenth month.
