Tel-haresha

Tel-haresha (meaning "mound of the craftsman" or "hill of the artificer") was one of several Babylonian settlements from which Jewish exiles attempted to return to Judah but could not prove their Israelite ancestry (Ezra 2:59; Neh. 7:61). These returnees from Tel-haresha, Tel-melah, and Cherub sought to establish their identity in the restored community but lacked genealogical documentation — a significant concern in the post-exilic community where lineage determined priestly service and land inheritance. Their inclusion despite uncertainty reflects the breadth of Zerubbabel's restoration gathering.
