Temanite

A Temanite was an inhabitant of Teman, the southern district of Edom noted for its wisdom tradition. The term is most significant as the designation of Eliphaz the Temanite, the first and most prominent of Job's three comforters (Job 2:11; 4:1; 15:1; 22:1; 42:7, 9). Eliphaz appeals to personal vision (Job 4:12–21), the observation of natural order, and the principle of retributive justice to argue that Job must have sinned. God ultimately rebukes him along with Bildad and Zophar for not speaking "what is right" about God (Job 42:7–8) and requires the three to offer burnt offerings and have Job intercede for them. Several early Edomite kings are identified as Temanites (Gen. 36:34), confirming Teman as a place of political significance.
