Terah

Terah was the father of Abraham (Abram), Nahor, and Haran, and the grandfather of Lot, living in Ur of the Chaldeans (Gen. 11:24–32). He initiated the journey toward Canaan, departing Ur with Abram, Lot, and Sarai, but the family settled at Harran rather than continuing to Canaan. Terah died at Harran at the age of 205. Joshua 24:2 explicitly states that Terah "served other gods" in Mesopotamia, underscoring God's sovereign grace in calling Abraham out of an idolatrous family background. In Luke's genealogy, Jesus' lineage is traced through Terah back to Adam (Luke 3:34), placing the Messianic line within this family history of divine rescue from paganism.
