Teresh

Teresh was one of two royal eunuchs (chamberlains, or "keepers of the threshold") who conspired to assassinate the Persian king Ahasuerus (Xerxes I), the other being Bigthan (Esth. 2:21–23; 6:2). Mordecai uncovered the plot and informed Queen Esther, who told the king in Mordecai's name. After investigation, both Teresh and Bigthan were hanged. The record of Mordecai's service was written in the royal chronicles. When Ahasuerus could not sleep and had the chronicles read to him, he heard of Mordecai's loyalty (Esth. 6:1–2), leading directly to Mordecai's public honor and the reversal of Haman's genocidal plot — a providential chain of events hinging on this foiled conspiracy.
