Testimony, Tabernacle of the

The Tabernacle of Testimony (Hebrew mishkan ha'eduth; also Tent of Witness or Tabernacle of Witness) was a designation for the wilderness sanctuary understood specifically as the house of the covenant "testimony" — the stone tablets of the law deposited in the ark of the testimony within the Holy of Holies (Ex. 38:21; Num. 1:50–53; 9:15; 17:7–8; 18:2). The name emphasizes that the tabernacle was not merely a place of worship but the earthly dwelling built around God's covenant documentation. Stephen uses this designation in his speech before the Sanhedrin: "Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness" (Acts 7:44), anchoring the continuity of God's presence with his people from Moses to Solomon. Revelation 15:5 speaks of "the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven" opening for the bowl judgments — the heavenly archetype of the earthly tent.
