Timaeus

Timaeus was the father of blind Bartimaeus, whose healing by Jesus on the road near Jericho is recorded in Mark 10:46-52. The name is of Greek origin and means defiled or possibly highly prized. Mark is unique among the Gospel writers in preserving the father's name alongside the son's, suggesting Bartimaeus was known in the early Christian community — perhaps indicating he became a disciple or was otherwise remembered by name.

Bartimaeus's persistence in calling out "Son of David, have mercy on me" despite the crowd's attempts to silence him (Mark 10:48) became a celebrated example of faith and determined prayer in NT interpretation. Jesus's response — "your faith has made you well" — connects the healing to Bartimaeus's persistent trust rather than to anything in his background. He immediately followed Jesus on the way after his sight was restored.
