Timon

Timon was one of the seven men chosen by the Jerusalem congregation to oversee the equitable distribution of food to Hellenistic widows who had been overlooked in the daily distribution (Acts 6:5). His name means honorable or worthy. He is listed third among the seven, all of whom bore Greek names, indicating they were drawn from the Hellenistic Jewish community — the group that had raised the complaint.

The selection of Timon and his colleagues represented an early form of ecclesiastical administration, with the apostles delegating practical service to free themselves for prayer and the ministry of the word (Acts 6:2-4). Beyond his listing in Acts 6:5, nothing further is recorded of Timon in Scripture. Later Christian tradition associates him with missionary work in various regions, but these accounts are not verifiable.
