Tobijah

Tobijah appears in two distinct biblical contexts. (1.) A Levite sent by Jehoshaphat throughout Judah to teach the law to the people (2 Chr. 17:8), listed alongside Tob-adonijah and other teachers in this educational mission — one of Jehoshaphat's key religious reforms. (2.) A man among those who returned from Babylon, mentioned alongside Heldai, Jedaiah, and Hen as recipients from whose silver and gold crowns were to be made for Joshua the high priest as a messianic sign-act (Zech. 6:10, 14).

The name means the Lord is good, identical in meaning to Tobiah. The Levite's role illustrates the teaching function central to the Levitical calling; the post-exilic figure illustrates the connection between the returnees and the prophetic hopes associated with Joshua the high priest in Zechariah's night visions.
