Tochen

Tochen was a town assigned to the tribe of Simeon, located in the Negev region of southern Judah (1 Chr. 4:32). The name means middle or measure. It appears in a list of Simeonite settlements along with Etam, Ain, Rimmon, and Ashan, and has not been securely identified with any modern archaeological site.

Simeon's tribal territory was embedded within Judah's allotment (Josh. 19:1), and over time many Simeonite towns were absorbed into Judah proper. Tochen's single appearance in a territorial list makes it difficult to reconstruct any historical significance beyond its role as a settlement marker for the Simeonite clan structure in the early Israelite period.
