Tolad

Tolad was a town of the tribe of Simeon in the southern portion of Judah (1 Chr. 4:29), identified with Eltolad in Joshua 15:30 and 19:4. The name means a generation or birth. Like other Simeonite towns, it was located within Judah's territorial allotment, reflecting Simeon's dispersal among the tribes as foretold in Jacob's blessing (Gen. 49:7).

Tolad appears only in territorial lists and genealogical registers, with no narrative events attached to it. Its identification with Eltolad allows it to be located in the Negev region, but the exact site has not been archaeologically confirmed. The Simeonite towns of the far south eventually became integrated into Judah, and Tolad/Eltolad likely followed this pattern.
