Trogyllium

Trogyllium was a small promontory and anchorage on the western coast of Asia Minor, opposite the island of Samos, near the city of Miletus. It appears in Acts 20:15 in the Western text tradition, which adds that Paul's ship "tarried" at Trogyllium — a brief overnight stop between Samos and Miletus during his third missionary journey as he made haste to reach Jerusalem before Pentecost. The location offered a sheltered anchorage for ancient ships navigating the notoriously difficult waters between the island of Samos and the mainland. Some manuscripts of Acts omit the reference, which accounts for its absence in certain modern translations. Trogyllium is mentioned by ancient geographers including Strabo and is identified with a promontory today called Cape Mykale or nearby Doğanbey in Turkey.
