Trophimus

Trophimus (Greek, meaning "well-nourished" or "a foster-child") was a Gentile Christian from Ephesus who accompanied Paul on his final journey to Jerusalem (Acts 20:4). His presence in Jerusalem at the end of Paul's third missionary journey became the occasion for the riot that led to Paul's arrest: certain Asian Jews, seeing Paul in the city with Trophimus, falsely assumed that Paul had brought the Gentile into the temple, crying out that he had defiled the holy place (Acts 21:28–29). This accusation, though untrue, triggered the mob violence that resulted in Paul's imprisonment under Roman custody. Paul's later letter to Timothy mentions that he had left Trophimus sick at Miletus (2 Timothy 4:20) — a detail that incidentally attests that the apostle did not invariably heal his companions, adding a realistic texture to the Pauline mission narrative.
