Ucal

Ucal is one of the two named recipients of the words of Agur son of Jakeh in Proverbs 30:1: "The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal." Beyond this single verse, nothing is known of Ucal in the canonical Scriptures. Some scholars have proposed that "Ithiel" and "Ucal" are not personal names but rather Hebrew phrases ("I have wearied myself, O God" and "I am consumed"), reading the verse as Agur's own confession of exhaustion before God rather than an address to disciples.

If personal names are intended, Ucal and Ithiel were apparently students or associates to whom Agur directed his wisdom reflections — a form of address common in ancient Near Eastern wisdom literature, where the sage speaks to a named younger person or son.
