Unni

Unni (meaning: afflicted or humbled of the LORD) is the name of two Levites in the post-exilic period. (1) A Levite whom David appointed to play the psaltery (a stringed instrument) as part of the musical procession bringing the ark of the covenant from the house of Obed-edom to Jerusalem (1 Chr. 15:18, 20). He is listed among the second-rank Levitical musicians appointed for this occasion. (2) A Levite who served in the temple during the time of Zerubbabel and Joshua the high priest, mentioned in Nehemiah 12:9 among those who led in the thanksgiving and prayers opposite their brethren.

The name's recurrence across two distinct periods reflects the continuity of Levitical musical tradition from David's era through the post-exilic restoration, when the same family structures and musical offices were reconstituted.
