Zair

Zair was the site where Joram king of Judah fought against Edom after the Edomites had revolted from Judah's rule (2 Kings 8:21). Joram went to Zair by night with all his chariots, was surrounded by the Edomites, and managed to break through with his chariot commanders, though the people fled to their tents. This battle marked the beginning of Edom's successful break from Judean control, a revolt that had been prophesied (Genesis 27:40). The location of Zair is uncertain; some equate it with Zoar near the Dead Sea, others with Zior in the hill country of Judah (Joshua 15:54).
