Zalmon

Zalmon is the name of two biblical sites. (1.) A hill near Shechem, from which Abimelech and his men cut down boughs to burn the stronghold of Shechem with its people inside (Judges 9:48). The attack destroyed the tower of Shechem and killed approximately a thousand men and women sheltering there. (2.) Zalmon is also mentioned in Psalm 68:14 in a striking image: when the Almighty scattered kings there, snow fell on Zalmon — possibly a metaphorical description of warriors falling pale as snow on the dark mountain, or a reference to a specific battle. The Zalmon near Shechem is likely identified with Jebel Suleiman or a nearby ridge.

Zalmon the Ahohite was also one of David's thirty mighty warriors (2 Samuel 23:28; 1 Chronicles 11:29), called Ilai in the Chronicles parallel.
