Zalmonah

Name meaning: "the shade; the sound of the number; his shadow"

Zalmonah was one of the camping stations of Israel in the wilderness, listed between Punon and Oboth in Numbers 33:41–42. The Israelites encamped there after departing from Mount Hor, in the circuit around Edom. The name may mean shady or relate to the root for image or darkness. The site has not been securely identified, though it lay in the Wadi Arabah south of the Dead Sea in the general region of modern Jordan. It is mentioned only in this wilderness itinerary list.
