Zanoah

Zanoah is the name of two towns in Judah. (1.) A town in the lowland (Shephelah) of Judah (Joshua 15:34), whose inhabitants helped repair the Valley Gate of Jerusalem under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 3:13) — a notably large section: five hundred cubits of wall. (2.) A town in the hill country of Judah (Joshua 15:56), apparently near Maon and Carmel. Additionally, a Calebite clan called Zanoah appears in the genealogy of Judah (1 Chronicles 4:18), perhaps the founding family of the town. The name may mean abandoned or forgetfulness.
