Zareth-shahar
Place
Zareth-shahar (meaning the splendor of dawn) was a city in the territory allotted to the tribe of Reuben east of the Jordan, listed in Joshua 13:19 as situated on the hill of the valley. The exact location is unknown, though the name suggests a site with a notable eastern exposure or prominence. It appears only in this boundary list and plays no further role in the biblical narrative. Its placement among Reubenite cities in the Moabite plateau connects it to the broader Transjordanian territory taken from Sihon king of the Amorites.
