Zebaim

Place

Zebaim appears in Ezra 2:57 and Nehemiah 7:59 as the home of a family of the sons of Solomon's servants — temple servants who returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel. The sons of Pochereth-hazzebaim (meaning gazelle) returned among this group. The name Zebaim may mean gazelles or roe-bucks and likely designates a place rather than a person. The site has not been identified, and the reference appears only in these two parallel administrative lists of returning exiles.
