Zebulun

Zebulun (meaning dwelling or honor) was the sixth and youngest son of Jacob and Leah (Genesis 30:20). Leah named him saying, God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons. He had three sons: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel (Genesis 46:14). Jacob's blessing for Zebulun (Genesis 49:13) predicted: Zebulun shall dwell at the shore of the sea; he shall become a haven for ships, and his border shall be at Sidon — pointing toward maritime trade and Phoenician connections, though Zebulun's historical territory was actually inland between Issachar and Asher.

The tribe of Zebulun played a significant role in Israel's early history: Zebulunites fought valiantly against Sisera (Judges 4–5; Psalm 68:27), and Elon the Zebulonite judged Israel for ten years (Judges 12:11–12). The tribe's territory in lower Galilee was prophetically linked by Isaiah 9:1–2 and Matthew 4:13–15 to the region where the Messiah's light would dawn.
