Zemarite
Name
The Zemarites were one of the Canaanite peoples descended from Canaan son of Ham, listed in the Table of Nations (Genesis 10:18; 1 Chronicles 1:16). They are generally associated with the ancient city of Sumur (Simyra) on the Phoenician coast of northern Syria, near the mouth of the Eleutheros River, known from Egyptian records and the Amarna letters. Like the Sinites and other coastal Canaanite peoples in the Table of Nations, the Zemarites represent one of the nations whose territory God promised to give to Abraham's descendants (Genesis 15:18–21). They appear only in these genealogical lists and are not mentioned in narrative contexts.
