Zephath

Zephath was a Canaanite city captured by Judah and Simeon early in the period of the judges and renamed Hormah (meaning devoted to destruction) after its complete destruction (Judges 1:17). The same site had previously been called Hormah after an earlier Israelite vow to destroy it (Numbers 21:3). The city lay in the Negeb, the southern wilderness region, and its location is tentatively identified with Tell esh-Sharia or Khirbet el-Meshash. Hormah was later assigned to Simeon within Judah's territory (Joshua 15:30; 19:4) and appears in the list of cities to which David sent spoil from his raid on the Amalekites (1 Samuel 30:30).
