Zephathah

Zephathah was a valley near Mareshah in the Shephelah of Judah where King Asa of Judah met and defeated Zerah the Ethiopian in a massive battle (2 Chronicles 14:9–15). The Chronicler describes Zerah's army as one million men and three hundred chariots, a number generally taken as a literary expression of overwhelming force rather than a precise count. Asa's prayer before battle — LORD, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and the weak (2 Chronicles 14:11) — became a model of dependence on God in warfare, and the subsequent rout was attributed entirely to divine action. The valley is not identified with certainty, but Mareshah is located in the western Shephelah near modern Tell Sandahanna.
